A state for deliberate, locally informed travel
Chhattisgarh is most satisfying when the route has a clear centre of gravity. Raipur and Sirpur make an approachable heritage-led opening; Kabirdham combines Bhoramdeo with the Maikal foothills; and Jagdalpur is the working base for Bastar's waterfalls, forest roads and cultural sites.
Do not treat Bastar as a day trip from the capital or stack every waterfall, cave and temple into one rushed circuit. Confirm access, road conditions and any protected-area requirements close to departure, keep daylight transfers generous, and follow local guidance at sacred and community settings.

Raipur/Sirpur, Kabirdham and Bastar each deserve their own base and transfer plan.
Kanger Valley requires a valid permit and official guide for park entry; rules and visitor periods can change.

Waterfall flow can be dramatic in and after the rains, while rain can also affect drives and access.

How many nights are enough for a first Chhattisgarh trip?
Four to seven nights works well when you choose one main chapter: Raipur/Sirpur, Kabirdham, or a Jagdalpur/Bastar stay. Combining all three needs more time and careful transfers.
Do Indian travellers need a visa for Chhattisgarh?
No. Chhattisgarh is domestic travel for Indian visitors. Protected areas, caves and individual sites can still have their own current booking and access rules.
When is Chitrakote Waterfall most dramatic?
The Chhattisgarh Tourism Board notes that Chitrakote is especially striking during and after the monsoon. Confirm current rain, road and viewpoint conditions close to travel.
Can I visit Kanger Valley independently?
Follow the National Park's current process: it publishes permit and official-guide requirements, seasonal visitor periods and safety rules. Do not assume a previous itinerary remains current.
Is Bastar suitable for a short day trip?
It is better as a Jagdalpur-based stay. The forests, waterfalls, caves and cultural context reward at least two or three nights rather than a rushed drive from Raipur.
What should I prioritise: Sirpur or Bhoramdeo?
Choose Sirpur for an archaeology-led Mahanadi stop; choose Bhoramdeo when carved temple architecture and Kabirdham's foothill landscape are the heart of the route.
